Shogi is often called "Japanese chess" and is a popular board game in Japan. The name comes from "sho" as in "shogun" or general and "gi" meaning boardgame.
Unlike in western chess, captured pieces can be returned to the board and used against the opponent.
Each player has 20 wedge-shaped pieces decorated with Japanese kanji (characters).
These pieces are wooden and come in a wooden box.
