What are now known in Japan as ‘Hero’ flutes began as flutes for Iwami Kagura: the ancient music and dancing of Japan’s native Shinto religion. Held alongside the mouth like an orchestral flute, the Hero flute nevertheless produces its sound in the same way as a recorder or ocarina: by putting it to the lips, and simply blowing. Prized as it is for this sound, it came to be called a Hero flute. The Hero flutes produced by the Hero Flute Company are the product of years of practice, trial and error. We are confident that our flutes are among the best you will find. These flutes come in five different styles: Rabbit, Firefly, Owl, Kingfisher & Frog.
